Have you heard about Lucid Dreaming? Or, interestingly, you are one of those people who actually could alter the scenario or circumstance in their dreams?

Lucid dreaming is basically controlling our dreams.

We dream almost every night, some good, some scary, some interesting some weird. We get up and tend to forget or remember or analyze them to find meanings attached to them.
Lucid dreams are when we are actually aware that we are dreaming. When we have a normal dream we observe a series of various events and then wake up and remember it the next morning as a kind of vague memory as if you were there but didn’t really have that awareness and the dream could have been completely silly, weird or wonderful. In a lucid dream, we are aware that it is a dream; we know that we are dreaming and as a result of that we can actually get to control our dream.
For example, watching a movie/video and playing a video game. While watching a movie/video we have no control over its content, we just watch it without changing it. On the other hand, while playing a video game, we can choose to change the scenario, the players, the circumstance, the background etc, just like lucid dream.

How does lucid dream actually happen?

There are a variety of things that can cause it, but basically one has to understand when lucid dreaming happens. Lucid dreaming doesn’t happen at any point in time, it happens during a specific stage of sleep called REM*[rapid Eye Movement Sleep]. In this sleep we are very close to waking alert stage so a slightest thing will wake us up at this stage. The brain is functioning at a higher level, we can process things logically and we are actually alert enough to be aware of being in a dream. And we realize that we are dreaming and that’s when we become lucid and we have control over our dream.

Lucid Dreaming is the art of being aware in the dream. Controlling dreams can mean ending the nightmare fast, or changing a sad scary dream to a happy positive one. Or maybe, just for fun, using a super power, flying, visiting some place, facing one’s fears or anything.
There are a lot of tutorials on how to start it, or intensify it or use it as a mediation tool and so on. Many of us would already be Lucid Dreaming, but probably didn’t know that this was a thing. Human brain is such a complex and interesting organ that can manifest and unleash so many amazing acts. Lucid Dreaming is just one of them…
*REM Sleep
REM sleep mostly begins 90 minutes after falling asleep. Some studies show that it mostly happens in stages and the initial stage may last around 10 minutes and with each stage it gets longer
