Once again I am receiving a barrage of whatsapp messages to change my DP to black colour, to 3 candles, to this to that and the only thing that pops in my mind is,"Ok, and then what?" First of all this social media advent has become so annoying, token activism, self advertisements, Gawwdd..
When the Nirbhaya tragedy had occurred similar forwards were being circulated, changing DP to black and all. And at least 60% of social media/messenger people had changed their DPs to show their anger, distraught and blah and blooh and such few people went to the march at India Gate, and even among the ones who went there, so many shameless creatures had molested females even there too. When I was there, I saw so many males scanning females who were participating in that protest march.
Once again DPs are changing, but are we seriously done with just changing the DPs? Is it enough? Have we visited any of those slain martyrs? Have we done something for them? What are the martyrs gaining? Token respect which will be forgotten tomorrow! During this weekend we all were discussing it over breakfast, tea, then dinner then again the next day that by making our whatsapp DP black will the blackness in their lives disappear? Right now, we are chanting "Soldier, Soldier" but what happens when these soldiers return home on waiting tickets sitting near the toilets of trains or hanging around the doors of the trains does anyone of us share our seats with them? If the son is fighting on the border, do we not try to encroach their lands in their villages? The least we can do is be with them, support them. I will not go around telling what I did for them or what I didn't, but social media token activism is definitely not on that list.
Real life exists beyond Facebook and whatsapp and twitter, use these to spread love and warmth and facts and jokes and get to the ground and DO something for Real not on social media....
